Collection Spotlight
Karen Navarro - Pieces
We normally dedicate this space to full collections, but Karen Navarro’s 1st editioned drop seems too good to pass up. On August 16th Navarro released a piece from her series “The Constructed Self” in an edition of 15, and it sold out within hours.
We previously covered Navarro’s larger genesis 1/1 collection, which was dropped in partnership with Art3. The series is a colorful and incisive commentary on the nature of identity, exploring notions of race, gender, and belonging among subjects who are 1st or 2nd generation Americans. And the constructed nature of the work speaks well to the constructs of how identities are formed and how they may be shaped by the contexts of generational history and geographical location.
Navarro, an Argentinian-born and Houston-based photographer has become broadly recognized on and off the blockchain. She has exhibited her work widely, including shows at Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, Houston Center for Photography, and Melkwek Expo in Amsterdam, among many others. And her work has been shared in numerous publications including ARTnews, The Guardian, Rolling Stone Italia, and more.

Fellowship
Led by legends of photography’s history such as Gregory Crewdson, Joel Meyerowitz, and Guy Bourdin (so far), Fellowship’s SuperRare Space has so far amassed over 1000 ETH in volume. It is an eye-popping figure that goes to show that even amid a bear market for NFTs and crypto in general, quality work will still find a home.

The platform is also hosting a Spaces talk with Joel Meyerowitz beginning 11am Saturday. Depending on when you’re reading this, you can tune in live or listen to the recording of the talk here:

Monolith x Light.art
Following Light.art’s sold out genesis collection, titled Alpha Collection, the platform has partnered up with Monolith to showcase the work of all 100 artists from the collection in a series of virtual exhibitions.

PhotoVerso + Summer Wagner
In further awesome news, we’re holding a Spaces talk with the one and only Summer Wagner this Tuesday at noon EST. And yes you are most cordially invited.
We’ll be discussing Summer’s Web3 journey, hear about her work and hustle, and hopefully get a sneak peak at what the artist’s near-term plans might hold.

Saatchi Art
In case you missed the preview we dropped on Thursday, Saatchi Art’s Visions of the Future collection is right around the corner, and is expected to reveal and open for bidding. The 50-image collection, drawn from a submission call that received over 800 entries from around the globe, will open publically next week.

Overheard
Mark Kelly shared a solid and succinct set of advice for artists looking for best practices in preparing a drop. We agree.

Matthew Morrocco took the bold step a few months ago of migrating his already-successful Complicit series from OpenSea’s shared contract to his own custom smart contract. He shared a thread recently that details how he went about it.
